Description:
Long-tailed salamander found from central New York through the eastern United States. Preys on invertebrates such as pseudoscorpions, spiders, phalangids, mites, and ticks. Lives in crevices, beneath stones and in caves on the margins of streams. The length of adults ranges from 10 to 15.9 cm (4 to 6.25 inches), with the record being 19.7 cm (7.75 inches). The tail accounts for about 60% of the total length.
