DescriptionWatercolor on paperThis fish has not yet been described scientifically. It belongs to a unnamed species of the Loricariidae Family. Formerly classified as Peckoltia sp, this species is today considered to belong to the Genus Hypancistrus. The fishes grow to a maximal length of 15 cm and are found only in the Xingu River, a tributary of the Amazon. The female lays 10-12 eggs into a cavern that is then guarded by the male. I made this painting from a life specimen in the aquarium of Oliver Lucanus, owner of the tropical fish company Belowwater.com.
