TitleJeholornis prima on a Bennettitalean trunk Contact
»Michael Rothman DescriptionThis illustration is a reconstruction of the Early Cretaceous basal bird, Jeholornis prima, extracting seeds from a fertilized Bennettitalean cone. This basal avian retained functional claws and teeth and while (unidentified) seeds and gizzard stones have been found in in Jeholornis specimens, its role as a seed predator and occasionally "sloppy" seed disperser for this specific Cycadeoid, Neozamites denticulate, has not yet been determined. Jeholornis reconstructed under the aegis of Dr. Jingmai O'Connor, IVPP, Beijing.
