DescriptionThis is a reconstruction of the extinct Aurochs (Bos primigenius), the putative ancestral form of modern domestic cattle, which formerly ranged widely on the European Continent. Here, an adult bull is depicted in the Central European Forest of the Bialowieza region in Poland, circa 1300. The last known example of the species became extinct in 1627. The area is now part of the a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve which includes the Białowieża National Park (Białowieski Park Narodowy) and adjacent areas in Belarus (Belovezhskaya Pushcha Forest).
